Gerta Call at 87

Holiston Reporter

Gerta Call, 87, of Holliston, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021. Born in Saaz, Czechoslovakia,  she was the daughter of the late Elisabeth (Wachet) and Oskar Guschl. She was the devoted wife and companion of 47 years to the late James E. Call.

Gerta taught Montessori in Hingham for 18 years, a job she truly loved, and for which she possessed the perfect blend of intelligence, kindness and patience. She loved animals and animals loved her, as she was perpetually surrounded by her own pets or those of her family. She took pleasure in knitting, reading, having lunch with friends, and spending time as a volunteer at the Holliston Senior Center, where she made many lasting friendships. She maintained deep roots and connections in Norwell, MA where she lived with her family for 43 years. She played piano, sang beautifully, and spoke several languages. Above all, her greatest joy was seeing her family and friends come together to share laughter and stories.

She is survived by four children, Sylvie Lemay of Newfield, ME, Tina Chemini and her husband, Donald of Holliston, MA, Peter Call and his wife, Deanna of High Pointe, NC, and Eric Call and his wife, Dr. Karen Skjei, of Austin TX. She is predeceased by her son, Stephen Call. She also survived by 9 grandchildren, Shawn, Craig, Eliza, Will, Stephen, Delaney, Jack, Virginia and Sophie, 2 great-grandchild, Claire and Emma, her sister-in-law, Phyllis Constance of Holyoke, her niece, Katie and nephew, Michael.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 21st from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St. www.ChesmoreFuneralHome.com. A graveside service will be held privately with family.

In lieu of flowers, Gerta would have wanted donations made to the Holliston Senior Center, 150 Goulding St. Holliston, MA 01746.
