Holliston resident, Bob McKee, registered for the Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai to give back to the organization that helped save his life.
Bob spent the Summer of 2023 going to a myriad of doctors trying to solve a case of extreme fatigue. He never imagined he’d walk away with an MRI scan showing three brain tumors or that he’d have to make the choice between immediate brain surgery or a likely scenario of 6-12 months to live. The decision was easy since he knew he had more life to live, including being a Dad for his then 5-year-old son. What followed was a grueling journey of surgery, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, and an autologous stem cell transplant. Thanks to the incredible research conducted at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, he was released from treatment on March 3, 2024 — his mother’s birthday — and has been in remission ever since.
Now, Bob is walking to give back. He’s participating in the 2025 Jimmy Fund Walk as part of Team Underdogs — a name inspired by the outpouring of support he received from his sports community on the fantasy sports app, Underdog, along with the Underdogs mentality that helped the Eagles win their first Super Bowl in 2018. When Bob shared his diagnosis with fellow players, people he had never met in person came together to support him and raise funds for his team along with a network of family, friends, and colleagues. That same spirit continues to carry him forward as he walks the 5K route this year alongside several family members, including his wife, Christina, his parents, and sisters.
“It’s incredibly inspiring to see so many people — survivors and supporters alike — come together for this cause,” said Bob. “Walking a 5K after everything I’ve been through feels like a true accomplishment and it was thanks to prior donations and fundraising efforts that made the research that saved my life possible. I want to do my part to give back.”
The 2025 Jimmy Fund Walk will take place on Sunday, October 5, and raises funds to support all forms of adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at the nation’s premier cancer center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Whether participating for themselves, loved ones, neighbors, or co-workers, each walker shares a common purpose: To join together against cancer and support breakthroughs that will benefit cancer patients around the world.
