The 19th-ranked girls lacrosse team in the state (via The Boston Herald) (11 wins -3 losses) continued their historic season this past week with wins over Medway, 15-6, perennial power Foxboro, 13-12 and, for the first time in program history, defending D3 State Champion Dover-Sherborn, 14-13. The senior-laden team is led by their 4 captains, Midfielder Caroline Salley, Attackers Abby & Bridget Glynn, and Defenseman Lily Sawyers.
The win over Foxboro came down to the final possession as Foxboro was awarded a ‘free position’ with :06 left in the game down by one. Soph G Maya Kirstein stopped the penalty shot to preserve the win and collect her 14th save of the contest and sending the team into a wild celebration.
Later in the week against D/S, the girls showed their toughness and athleticism as they battled the intense heat and a tough opponent on the road. After falling behind 3-1 early, the Panthers rallied to take an 8-5 lead into the half behind Abby Glynn’s 4 goals, sister Bridget’s 2 goals, and Junior Midfielder Martha Walker’s 2. The second half saw the defending champs show their championship pedigree and battle back to grab an 11-10 lead with about 7 mins to go. Holliston tied it up on a beautiful pass from Sr attacker Cara Chipman to a cutting Abby Glynn who scored her 7th of the game. She would finish with 10 goals, yes 10 goals and the Panthers would hang on for the 1-goal victory with some solid team defense and dominating the face-off circle in the final 5 minutes to keep the ball away from D/S to win their 9th straight game.
