Holliston Police Department – Monthly Update: August 2021

PERSONNEL HIGHLIGHTS:

  • On August 1, 2021, Detective Ciara Maguire reached twenty-seven (27) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On August 9, 2021, Lieutenant Leurini met with Medway Sergeant Jeff Watson, and DPW Director Sean Reese to discuss the placement and installation of the new Commercial Motor Vehicle Exclusion (CMVE) signs on South Street, Bullard Street, High Street, and Locust Street.
  • On August 13, 2021, Lieutenant Thompson, Lieutenant Leurini, and School Resource Officer Woods conducted an interview for the vacant crossing guard position.
  • On August 16, 2021, Lieutenant Thompson and Lieutenant Leurini presented Officer Guillermo Palencia to the Town Administrator and the Holliston Select Board. Officer Palencia is the newest member of the police department and comes here from the Tufts University Police Department.
  • On August 17, 2021, Officer Palencia began his first field training shift with veteran field training Officer Downey.
  • On August 18, 2021, Lieutenant Leurini participated in a Zoom call with Select Board Chair Tina Hein and Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Coordinator Rachel O’Donnell.
  • On August 19, 2021, Lieutenant Thompson, Detective Maguire, and Clinician Ashley Scionti participated in the monthly Jail Diversion Program (JDP) operations meeting.
  • On August 23rd and 24th, the Holliston Police Department hosted a two (2) day training course entitled “Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (A.R.I.D.E.)” in the John Johnson training room at the Holliston Police Department. Officers Charette, Hulme, and Parent each attended this two-day course.
  • On August 23, 2021, Chief Stone participated in screening interviews for the new Assistant Town Administrator/Human Resources Manager at the Town Hall. The interview panel consisted of Chief Stone, Town Treasurer Mary Bousquet, Town Planner Karen Sherman, Parks and Recreation Director Mark Frank, Town Technology Director Chris Meo, and School Superintendent Dr. Susan Kustka.
  • On August 25, 2021, School Resource Officers Digiorgio and Woods attended a one (1) day “School Safety Summit” in Maynard, MA.
  • On August 28, 2021, Sergeant Matthew Waugh reached fifteen (15) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • During the month of August, Sergeant/K-9 Hagan and K-9 Mattis completed their mandatory 16 hours of in-service training with the Boston Police K-9 Unit.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS:

  • On August 3, 2021, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Leurini, Sergeant Belson, Officer Grace, Officer Parent, Officer Hulme, Dispatcher Ray, and Dispatcher Brown participated in the annual “National Night Out” event at Goodwill Park. “National Night Out” against crime is a country-wide event designed to help build relationships between the police and the communities that they serve.
  • On August 3, 2021, Sergeant Hagan and K-9 Mattis performed a K-9 demonstration for the Holliston Parks and Recreation summer campers at Stoddard Park. Chief Stone, Lieutenant Leurini, Officer Woods, and Officer Grace joined the demonstration and spoke to the campers about the many duties and responsibilities that the Holliston Police Department serves within the community.
  • On August 18, 2021, several members of the police department hosted an ice cream social event for the residents of the Holliston Housing Authority who reside at Cole Court.
  • On August 21, 2021, Lieutenant Leurini organized and participated in the second “bicycle rodeo” of the summer at Placentino Elementary School. Lieutenant Leurini was joined by Officer Woods and members of the Auxiliary Police. Landry’s Bicycle shop and Juniper Farms Ice Cream truck were also present at the event.
  • On August 25, 2021, several members of the police department hosted an ice cream social event for the residents of Mission Springs.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

  • September 27, 2021 – Officer MacGray will be sworn in as the department’s newest Sergeant at the Select Board meeting beginning at 7:00PM.
  • October 11, 2021 – Members of the Holliston Police Department will be assisting the Towns of Hopkinton, Ashland, and Framingham during the running of the 125th Boston Marathon.
  • October 2021 – Members of the Holliston Police Department will once again be participating in the “Pink Patch Project” to support Breast Cancer Awareness. Holliston Police Department Pink Patches are available for sale by contacting the police department. All proceeds collected will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
  • November 2021 – The Holliston Police Department will be hosting their 2nd annual “Veterans Appreciation Breakfast” at the police station.
