The following update was received from Jennifer Mieth, Public Information Officer at the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services at 9:30 am, Tuesday, January 19th.

“Last night, a house fire occurred at 623 Winter Street in Holliston. A couple escaped safely, but then one of them re-entered the burning, smoke-filled home in an attempt to rescue more than a dozen dogs. Both were transported to a local hospital. One person succumbed to their injuries. The dogs perished. The fire is being jointly investigated by the Holliston Fire and Police and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.”

Mieth added later on Tuesday, “All the dogs perished. Animal Control will determine the exact count, but it is between 15 and 20.” and “Confirming it was a woman who died in Holliston.

  1. Very sad. Why was there so many pets in the property in cages? 10 to 20 animals this is an impossible number for one household to handle.
