HPD Helps Half-pints with Many Pints

Holiston Reporter

If you happened to be driving by the Holliston Police headquarters on Thursday, you knew something special was going on. Chief Matthew Stone invited us to stop by and capture the event.

When we spoke with Chief Stone, he was sporting a fitting blue elastic bandage over his donation site. He was the first donor of the day. Stone reported that initially the blood drive was planned for 24 donors. Due to popular demand, the number of slots was upped to 36 – all filled.

We asked the Chief for a photo sporting his bandage. He deferred and asked Officer Daniel Griffith, one of a least four HPD personnel to donate, as his stand in. Below, Officer Griffith models his very subdued bandage just outside the mobile bloodmobile.

Five beds in the air-conditioned bus made for a very cool experience for the thirty-six donors who gave a pint for Boston Children’s “half-pints.”

The last appointment of the day belonged to SGT Matthew Waugh. SGT Waugh was completing a double shift as he ‘rested’ in the comfy recliner to give up the critically needed “gift of life.”

Thank you Chief Stone and HPD for donating and hosting the blood drive. For those who were not able to get in on this drive, the Mount Hollis Lodge is hosting a blood drive this Sunday (July 18th) from 8:00 – 2:30pm.
