Residents should follow safe and healthy tips to participate in Halloween activities that may limit the risk of exposure to COVID-19. These tips are consistent with guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Data suggests that much of the spread of the virus that is occurring in the state is taking place in households and social gatherings. Remain as vigilant with mitigation measures in private as you are in public.

Daylight Saving Time (DST) ends on Sunday, November 1 at 2:00 AM. On Saturday night, remember to set your clocks back one hour. While modern technology has made it such that we don’t need to turn back every clock in your home, if your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms have serviceable batteries, you should change your batteries this weekend. Some newer alarms have a 10-year “worry free” sealed battery for which batteries do not need to be replaced; the entire unit is simply replaced after a decade. Smoke alarms (including hard-wired interconnected units) should be replaced after 10 years, and CO alarms should be replaced after 5-7 years; in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.

Starting November 1, 2020 there is no on street parking between the hours of 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM. This parking ban will remain in effect until March 31, 2021.

Holliston Youth & Family Services can be a resource during these stressful times. The Select Board recently approved a second round of short-term rental or mortgage support for eligible applicants; watch the Y&FS webpage for a new application period to open soon. The state also offers Residential Assistance for Families in Transition (RAFT) and Emergency Rent and Mortgage Assistance (ERMA) programs for income-eligible households.
