Kristy Wiwczar for Library Trustee

Hello, Holliston!  My name is Kristy Wiwczar and I am running for re-election to the Library Board of Trustees.

Background

My husband and I moved to the Queens neighborhood in Holliston in March 2002.  We have one daughter, who is a 2024 graduate of Holliston High School and the French immersion program.  My long time support for our Library shows demonstrated commitment over more than two decades starting as a Friend of the Library in 2004.  Initially recruited after a book sale/bake sale, I served as Secretary and Treasurer, participated in various fundraisers, and baked myriad cakes for One Book One Holliston, Staff and Volunteer Appreciation events and even a gingerbread Library for the Holiday Stroll.  I have been a Library Trustee since 2019, serving on the interview committee for the Director twice, and as Vice Chair (2023-2024) and Chair (2024-2025).

Why Am I Running?

I am running for a third term for two reasons.  The first is to continue to give back to Holliston.  Service to the community is very important to me.  So much has been accomplished in town by volunteers –elected, appointed, or just passionate about something.  Being a Trustee has allowed me to build deeper connections with individuals in town that I might not have naturally crossed paths with, and with whom I have a unifying mission.  The Trustees are a dedicated group of individuals who share the goal of wanting what’s best for the library, the staff and patrons.

The second reason I’m running is because it has become an increasingly difficult environment for libraries.  It’s critical to keep our library a welcoming and accessible place for the entire community.  I will continue to advocate for the library against efforts to cut services.

My Priorities

  • Keep the library accessible, welcoming and representative of all members of our community.  It’s imperative that the collection and programming remain diverse and inclusive and reflects the stories and experiences of our patrons
  • Integrate the next Director into the Town and work with them to establish a strong working relationship with the Trustees, develop deep ties in town and ensure they feel welcomed and supported.
  • Think creatively about the use of space.  Our amazing and creative library staff has continued to maximize the existing square footage by rearranging furniture and shelving.  We need to explore our options and consider what else is possible.
  • Understand the full scope and impact of the current administration’s cuts to the Institute of Museum and Library Science funding (via E.O. signed on March 14) and work to mitigate the impacts of those cuts.

As a demonstrated advocate for our library, I hope to continue to serve the residents of Holliston for another term.  Thank you for your consideration and I ask for your vote on May 20.
