From Leslie McDonnell
The Holliston Public Library has received an anonymous donation of $30,000 in honor of 93-year old Holyoke, MA resident and library enthusiast, Constance O’Dell. The donor’s gift will honor Constance by providing special programs to children and young adults that support the library’s role as an essential contributor to the Holliston community.
The donation will support many new initiatives this fall, including the purchase of a laptop and a film projector to carry out programs such as film screenings, author talks and science presentations. It has also enabled the library to present triple the usual number of programs for young readers including a Harry Potter Halloween party; cooking lessons; a mindfulness series for combating anxiety and stress; and, a non-violent, hands-on video game program. A science program about the night sky, a winter variety show of music and dance and art programs to build self-esteem are also included. Similar programs will continue to be sponsored by this gift for years to come.
The library staff and trustees are so pleased to receive this gift. It will reach parents, children and teens who might not normally use the library or be aware of its many services and help expose them to a world of life-long reading, culture and learning. Many of the programs are designed to support emotional and developmental life skills for young residents while others are just pure fun.
