Marigold Project Slips into Fall

Ah summer, we’ve certainly had our share of heat waves and the hanging baskets throughout downtown and East Holliston have had the Marigold Projects watering crew making numerous visits. During a normal year the water route would take place every three to four days, not this year. Every other day is now the new normal. Those baskets will now be coming down around September 4th.

Don’t despair, nearly eight hundred chrysanthemums are due to arrive the following week to usher in the fall season. Once the mums get a head start, hundreds of daffodils, lily, and iris rhizomes will be planted for the spring 2026 season.

Ambience was the word “the atmosphere and character of a place” for the Marigold Project this summer. While Bertucci’s is no longer in business, their sign planter at 420 Washington Street wasn’t neglected. Or take that long strip of earth between the parking lot and sidewalk next to CVS. Ambience at its best.

We’ll need a few volunteers to help plant mums on September 12th and 13th. All you need is a shovel. A pickup truck to transport the plants would be helpful if you have one. And the tour of duty is only several hours long. It’s all about community folks and the character and atmosphere of this place we call home.
