Newcomers and Pantry Shelf Team Up to Distribute Thanksgiving Meals

Holliston Reporter

Today, 173 families will be receiving Thanksgiving meals thanks to the efforts of the Holliston Newcomers and Neighbors in partnership with the Pantry Shelf.

Debbie Colburn and Katrine Giroux chaired the Newcomer’s food and fund collection to put together boxes of Thanksgiving dinners. Co-chair Christine Charrette was not present for this photo.

“Many hands make light work,” is the best description of this effort.  For the past weeks, the Newcomers have been collecting non-perishable food and money.  The food goes into the boxes along with fresh produce purchased with the donated funds.

Table Talk provided discounted pies, the Historical Society donated the use of the barn, and many volunteers of all ages donated their time to assemble the boxes.

In addition to the Newcomers members and their families, members from the First Congregational Church Youth Group and the Holliston High School Hockey team leant their hands to make the work fly by.

Each Thanksgiving box includes a gift card to purchase the meat of choice.  The Newcomers and the Pantry Shelf pool their funds to purchase the gift cards.

And if that were not enough – the Newcomers will be up early on Thanksgiving preparing meals at the Mt. Hollis Lodge for distribution to Holliston Seniors.

So much to be thankful for!

  1. Every year all of the Religious Education classes at St. Mary’s church also donate to the collection. I’m sure there are other churches and religious organizations who do too, so we need to give a shout out to them. Thank you to all the groups who have rolled up their sleeves and pitched in!

  2. On behalf of the whole Pantry community, thank you to all that contributed to this wonderful tradition!

  3. It’s so special to see the community come together for this every year! I’ve donated funds in the past, but to actually help put everything together with kids was very impactful. Bravo to Holliston Newcomers & Neighbors and all those involved in making it a success. ❤️
