Samuel “Sam” Summerfield Savage III, father, brother, and friend passed away, with family by his side, on July 18th, 2024, at the age of 72.
Sam was born to Samuel and Helen Savage (née Klass) on September 9th, 1951, and raised in Scarsdale, New York and later in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1973 with a degree in graphic design. He worked in the advertising and marketing industry before breaking off in 1990 to co-found his own graphic design studio, Yellow Inc., based in Holliston, MA. Later in life, Sam pursued his love of home renovation and began a business as a design-build architect, drawing up plans for some of the most beautiful homes in the area. Holliston was Sam’s community for over 30 years and was where he raised his two daughters and developed cherished friendships. He recently retired to West Chesterfield, New Hampshire in 2023 where he transformed his dream fixer-upper into his finest home yet.
Sam loved a weekend project, collecting odd and beautiful things, reading mystery novels, creating elaborate home-cooked meals, and listening to -and playing- the blues on his bass guitar. Every time we find the perfect tool for the job, score an amazing bargain, or have some excellent barbeque, we will think of Sam. He will be remembered by his simple kindness, his clever wordings, and eye for detail. He will be missed for so much more.
He is survived by his two daughters Taylor and Kate Savage (Chicago, IL; New York, NY), his beloved Sister Maria Storm (Bradford, NH), his brother-in-law Bruce Storm, and nephew Christian Storm, as well as many dear friends.
A cookout in Sam’s honor will be hosted from 4 – 8 PM on September 14, 2024, at the Chevy Grille (1039 Washington Street, Holliston, MA 01746). For further details and to RSVP, please follow this link.
To best honor Sam, the family suggests you raise a cold one and vote blue in November. Nothing would make him happier.
