On May 25, 2023, Holliston Girl Scouts and Scouts joined members of the American Legion and VFW for the annual Dressing of the Graves and Unserviceable Flag Ceremony. Scouts replaced weathered flags in two Holliston cemeteries.

Once all the flags were gathered, they were disposed of, by burning, in accordance with the American Legion code. Steve Bradford and Ron Turcotte spoke about the history of the American flag and why we retire flags respectfully. The Holliston Fire Department was on scene to monitor the ceremony.

If you have a flag that is tattered or unserviceable, you can bring it to one of Holliston’s three flag collection boxes at the Post Office, Senior Center, and Town Hall and it will be retired in a future ceremony.
