The Holliston Select Board held a brief meeting on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. The primary purpose of the meeting was to determine the roles each member would hold during the coming year. The 2022 – 2023 Chair Ben Sparrell opened this meeting at 7:01pm.
Before the reorganization, Mr. Sparrell thanked Mrs. Hein for her leadership related to sidewalks and pedestrian safety and Mr. Cronin for his leadership of the DPW facility project – both items recently were approved at Town Meeting and the Annual Town Election.
In rapid succession:
- Mr. Sparrell nominated John Cronin for Select Board Chair, the motion was seconded by Mrs. Hein and the motion passed 2-0-1 (Mr. Cronin abstained)
- Mr. Cronin nominated Tina Hein for Select Board Vice-chair, the motion was seconded by Mr. Sparrell and the motion passed 2-0-1 (Mrs. Hein abstained)
- Mrs. Hein nominated Ben Sparrell as Select Board Clerk, the motion was seconded by Mr. Cronin and the motion passed 2-0-1 (Mr. Sparrell abstained)
Mr. Cronin assumed the role as Chair and conducted the remaining items on the meeting agenda.
Weekly Accounts Payable & Payroll Warrant(s): The Board unanimously approved the warrant totaling $873,775.12.

- Thanked the Memorial Day Committee and residents for the beautiful ceremony held on Monday.
- She noted especially, Joe Cibotti the intrepid American Legion bugler for his service.

- The Assistant Fire Chief / EMS Director position approved at Town Meeting has been posted.
- Work continues on the Job Description posting for the EDC Coordinator position approved at Town Meeting.
Mr. Cronin asked Mr. Ahern to add the Board’s FY 24 Goals and Liaison assignments to an upcoming agenda.
Board Business: The Board took the following actions:
- Approved minutes for the March 27, April 3, and May 15 2023, meetings.
- Accepted $1,934 Donation to Police Department for AED from Newcomers
- Accepted $100 donation to the Senior Center in memory of Linda Flannery from Patricia and Michelle Flannery
- Accepted $100 donation to the Senior Center in memory of Linda Flannery from David Darst
- Accepted $400 donation Senior Center for the nutrition program from the Superette – noting that these donations seem to be coming more frequently than in the past – THANK YOU Superette patrons.
- Approved event permit and waiver of fees for Rosh Hashanah for use of Upper Town Hall on September 16, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. to noon
- Approved event permit Block Party June 3, 2023, High Rock Road noon and 8:00 p.m. Mr. Cronin abstained as he lives in the neighborhood.
- Approved event permit for Poppy Day that was held on May 27, 2023, Rossini Corner 9:00 a.m. to noon.
- Approved Contract not to exceed $146,025 for Road Milling to FY 24 P.J. Albert Inc.
Other Business:
Mrs. Hein will be attending a meeting of Cole Court residents on June 1 and plans to attend the June 14th Sewer District Public Forum.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:16pm (not a typo) with the promise of a longer meeting on June 5, 2023.
