Week 6:
South 11 Dalton Rd 10:
In a nail biter, South held on to nip Dalton Rd thanks to the bat and glove of young star, LF Sean Jacquet who homered in the 5th and then, in the 7th, made a diving catch on a line drive off the bat of OF Chris Monroe to save 2 runs and keep the score tied at 10.
Rookie OF Ryan Looney then drove in 3B Matt Wernborg from third with the winning run in the bottom 7th as Matt just beat the throw of Dalton SS Jason Krantz to the platefor a walk-off win. OF Jay Skeldon also went yard earlier in the game to get South out to an early lead. Dalton Rd was without Timmy ‘Softball’ McDevitt and Dan ‘PrimeTime’ Geary. The former took his mission trip to the Dominican to help build churches and schools while the latter returned to his vacation estate to let the contractors in to build his indoor golf simulator. Quite the dichotomy…
Anthony’s East 24 Lions 3:
Veteran P Jim Cormier twirled another gem giving up just 3 hits and 1ER as Anthony’s remained undefeated. LF Ben Pratt went 5-6 with a mammoth home run into a 20-mph wind early to set the tone. 1B Chris Landers stayed hot at the plate with 4 hits and 4 RBI’s. Lions OF Ernie ‘the hit man’ Tomacelli helped Lions avoid the shut out with a 39 yr FG late in the 6th.
Kampersal 22 DYR 10:
OF Brad Rowe went 6-6 with 8 RBI’s as Kampersal slapped around DYR to keep pace with Braggville and South to remain tied for first. The offense pounded out 89 hits(roughly)and the ageless 1B Bryn Smith added 5 of his own to help put the game away early. C Brian ‘Big Game’ Mc Shane had 4 hits including a key 2-out hit to begin the onslaught in the 2nd. DYR OF Jay Miller ran approximately 34 miles and dove for numerous line-drives only to come up empty as Kampy’s pounded the ball to left-center repeatedly. A DYR rally was stamped out early when 2B Tom Kampersal made a leaping catch of a Miller line drive to prevent 2 runs.
Braggville 20 Downtown 13:
C Johnny Marsell hit a monstrous HR in the 5th to break open a close game enabling Braggville to pull away and cruise to victory. 1B Chad Engel had 4 doubles and OF Ted Mottor scored 5 times from the lead-off spot for the victors. Downtown OF Todd Kiley paced his squad with 3 hits and 4 RBI to help stake his team to an early lead. Quick update on all-star OF Tim McCarron: seems the trip to Dr Andrews is not needed and the slugger could be back as early as this week but most likely back for week 8 vs DYR.
The Hood 9 Mudville 2:
Not the time to lay an egg but Mudville did just that in a lackluster effort versus The Hood. 1B Errick Spada had rough day but I won’t elaborate as the slugger protected this reporter during our round of golf the previous day when my wayward tee-shot struck a golfer in the group in front of us. The victim was very upset and confronted us as we drove up to the green. His mood soon changed when the 6’7’ Spada stepped out of the golf cart. Much appreciated, partner.
Brentwood 10 Johnson North 5
Brentwood kept Johnson winless….
Jasper Rock 16 Queens 8:
Jasper turned the offense back on this week and doubled up Queens behind the bat of 3B Doug Herman who drove in 5 with 4 doubles while OF Jeremy Cordon had 3 hits and scored 4 times from his leadoff spot.

- Can Anthony’s continue its perfect record vs ‘A’ Division teams? Can wily veteran P Jim Cormier dazzle again vs a prolific Kampersal line-up??

Pretty sure I hit a couple toll roads on that 34 mile journey…
Another great column! How much extra will I have to slip you for three mentions?? Wily? I’ve always wanted to be wily!!
