Library Trustees Meet

The Holliston Library Trustees met remotely Wednesday evening, December 7, 2022.  Chair Karla Alfred (below L), after correcting technical issues, called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM.  Minutes from their November meeting were approved, and the team then heard the Director’s Report from Librarian Deric Wilson (below R)

Wilson provided Trustees with the numbers of patrons attending several events and meetings in November.  Gathering high attendance figures were online author talks — by Bonnie Garmus (41), Swame Christian (24), and Geraldine Brooks (29).  The date selected for Joanne Hulbert’s local history presentation for One Book, One Holliston is set for February 22.  The date for the author talk, Travels with George, by Nathaniel Philbrick, has not been determined.  The author’s fee for this presentation will be provided by the Friends of the Library.

The Holliston Garden Club has once again provided decorations outside and inside the Library for the Holiday season.

Wilson reported November was a “relatively calm month,” despite having to close early (6:15 PM) on November 30 due to intermittent power outages.  Apparently, the Library was in the section of town affected by an electrical interruption.

In response to patrons’ concerns about bestsellers being available, Wilson said they are catching up.  Books having a high “hold demand” determine how many books are needed.  Wilson said he is working to perfect the ratio.

Wilson is also working on a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a study of the Library.  Funding of $12,000 for this study was approved at Fall Town Meeting.  Working with Wilson’s draft, Trustees suggested edits and revisions and voted to approve the amended document.  To move forward, Wilson will bring the revised RFP to Town Administrator Travis Ahern and Facilities Manager James Keast.

The final item on the agenda was a look at the “Hot Spot Lending Policy.”  Wilson said not much change was required, but the Trustees asked him to gather more research so they can revisit the Policy at the January meeting.

Watch for changes in the Children’s Library thanks to this grant!

The next meeting of the Trustees is set for January 4, 2023.  Wednesday’s meeting adjourned at 7:42
