Dear Holliston Students and Families,
As I continue my Listening and Learning Tour this fall, one of the most inspiring stops was Celebrate Holliston Day. I saw so many booths that were either directly or indirectly connected with the Holliston Public Schools. Students, parents, and dedicated community volunteers worked hand in hand to showcase their programs. Those lively conversations offered a firsthand look at the remarkable spirit of civic engagement that defines Holliston. I also have had the privilege of sitting down with leaders from many of these fantastic organizations to discuss their visions and ongoing efforts. As we talked, a consistent theme quickly emerged: while their impact is immense, every single one of these groups would deeply appreciate more volunteers to help carry their vital missions forward.
There are many dedicated organizations directly connected with the Holliston Public Schools that enrich the educational experience for our students:
The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) supports our schools by funding essential classroom resources, organizing community events, and supporting staff initiatives across all grade levels.
The Holliston Education Foundation (HEF) plays a vital role by offering innovative grants directly to teachers, fostering creative teaching methods, and funding cutting-edge technology and programs.
For our student-athletes, the Holliston Athletics Boosters Association (HABA) provides crucial support for sports programs, ensuring our teams have necessary equipment, facilities, and recognition.
The Holliston Music and Arts Parents Association (HMAPA) champions the arts by sponsoring musical performances and art showcases that showcase our students’ artistic talents.
Holliston Youth and Family Services (HYFS) provides inclusive behavioral health support and resources that nurture the unique needs of all children and families in Holliston.
Diverse Holliston works closely with the community and schools to sponsor programs and conversations that help foster inclusivity, equity, and a deep sense of belonging for every student and family in Holliston.
Furthermore, in alignment with our commitment to collaborative governance and strong family-school partnerships, our principals are currently starting up their School Site Councils. School Site Councils serve as advisory bodies that work alongside school leadership to review school budgets, identify educational goals, and support continuous school improvement. Please note that these are open meetings, and we welcome everyone’s participation. We invite parents, guardians, staff, and community members to attend and share their voices in shaping our schools.
I want to extend a big thank you to all community members who are already volunteering in Holliston. Your support is what makes our town extraordinary. For those of you who are considering, it’s not too late! I encourage all of our community members to think about joining and participating in these organizations. Whether you can lend an hour a month or a few hours a week, your engagement directly enriches the educational and cultural landscape of Holliston for our students.
All the best,
Dr. J. Kimo Carter
