From Mary Curran

To celebrate Earth Day, the Holliston Conservation Associates will be holding their annual Vernal Pool Walk on Saturday April 23rd at 10:00 AM at the Daniels’ Conservation Area.  All are invited to this FREE program.

Park across the street at Holliston High School. We will meet at the entrance to the Daniels Conservation Property.  The vernal pool is a short walk into the property.

Dress appropriately for the weather.   We will be outdoors for an hour or more.  Since we will be at the water’s edge, boots may be helpful but are not necessary.

Marc Connelly will be leading this event to celebrate Earth Day!  You probably have heard the peepers and wood frogs this spring.  We may see egg masses of frogs or salamanders (above).  They feel a bit like Jello.  We may find a fairy shrimp or a caddis fly larva.  Caddis fly larvae build houses around themselves from bits of grass or twigs.  Marc always has neat things to tell us about life in and around a vernal pool.

This is a great hands-on program for children and adults alike.  Come and see what you can find this year!
