Flag Count – Memorial Day 2020

Holliston Reporter

Early Monday morning, we made a circle around Holliston counting homes and businesses along the route that displayed a flag or other patriotic display.

In total we viewed over 450 homes and businesses.  99 of those locations had a flag, bunting, or wreath on display.  That is about 22% overall (up 1% from our July 4, 2020 tally).

We captured some photos along the way of displays that caught our eye.

Here are the streets we surveyed:

Central Street from Washington Street to the Millis Town Line

  • 103 locations; 21 flags / displays = 20%

Highland Street from the Medway Town line to the Ashland Town line

  • 131 locations; 29 flags / displays = 22%

Ashland Street from Ashland Town line to Gooch’s corner, Concord Street from Gooch’s corner to Rosinni’s corner

  • 124 locations; 26 flags / displays = 21%

Mudville: Pleasant, Union, Exchange, Mechanic, Spring, and School Streets

  • 97 locations; 23 flags / displays = 24%

Thank you Holliston for supporting one another and our nation at this difficult time in our world.

While not on our route, this antique (48 stars) flag displayed on the Hendersons’ garage caught our eye and seemed a fitting close to this article.

Stay safe. Chris and Yvette Cain
