For several years we have spent 4th of July mornings on the roads in Holliston to continue a tradition that we adopted from our hometown in Connecticut.
With our Semiquincentennial upon us, we want to expand our counting efforts by enlisting our friends and neighbors in counting patriotic symbols on your street or in your neighborhood.
First, what have we counted as patriotic symbols in the past? Flags (of any size), bunting, banners, wreaths, anything that carries the red, white, and blue theme. But, no matter how many symbols are on a property, that counts as ONE display for that address.
The counting should take place on Saturday, July 4,th or Sunday, July 5th. If you choose to drive your route, we recommend hitting the roads early in the day. Also, if you drive, please have a second person as your spotter/counter.
At the end of your chosen route (walking or driving), send the number of displays to the special Hollistonflagcount@gmail address. Don’t worry about counting the number of properties on your route.
We will cover: Exchange (Washington to Railroad), Union, Mechanic, School, Spring, and Pleasant
Please include in your submission: the street name(s), if you do a portion of a street(s), please include the beginning and ending property numbers, the number of displays, and include your name so we can credit your work in the summary report.
All reports submitted to the flag count address no later than July 7th will be included in the report that will be distributed via the Holliston Reporter and Facebook.
Thank you! Chris and Yvette Cain
