Holliston Knights Surpass $250,000 in Charitable Donations!

Holiston Reporter

On Saturday, October 9, 2021 the Saint Mary’s Council of the Knights of Columbus held the prize drawing for their 13th annual charity raffle. With this year’s raffle proceeds which are earmarked for donation, the Council has passed the one quarter of a million dollars in TOTAL donations since beginning their fundraising efforts in 2008.

As in years past, sizeable donations will be made to Holliston’s Pantry Shelf, the Senior Center, the Metrowest/Greater Worcester Habitat for Humanity, Veterans’ organizations, and other worthwhile causes.

Council 14224 Grand Knight Al Scaramella (below right) thanked everyone who purchased tickets to support this major fundraiser. He introduced Knight Tom Anguish (below left) who has been the heartbeat of the annual raffle for the past several years. Anguish reinforced that the outpouring of financial support for this year’s raffle was amazing and thanked all involved.

Then it was time to get down to business – drawing the five winning tickets. Below, the audience waiting for their lucky ticket to be drawn (spoiler alert) – nobody present at the drawing went home with any money!

All eyes were on the tumbler full of tickets.

The five winning tickets were drawn from grand prize through fifth place by the folks pictured above. Deputy Grand Knight Tom Brodo is seen reading each winning ticket number to verify the results.

  • Paul Saulnier, Knight and 2021 Male Citizen of the Year, chose the $1,000 prize winner (top left)
  • Donna Brodo, Deputy Grand Knight Tom Brodo’s wife, chose the $500 winner (top middle)
  • Bobbie McGaffigan, Knight Connie McGaffigan’s wife, chose the $250 winner (top right)
  • Sheila Masson, Knight Dick Masson’s wife, drew the $150 ticket (bottom left)
  • Yvette Cain, Holliston Reporter publisher, drew the fifth place $100 ticket (bottom right)

Congratulations to all the winners and to the Knights for conducting such a successful raffle.

While the Knights’ raffle is well known around town, it is just one of the many fundraising and charitable efforts the Knights undertake each year. In fact, close on the heals of the raffle drawing, the Knights were busy passing out Tootsie Rolls after mass to raise more funds to pass on to worthy charities.

Where would Holliston be without the extraordinary efforts of these “knights in shining armor?”

  1. We offer a huge “THANK YOU” to all those who bought tickets and supported us for the past thirteen years and helped us raise the Quarter of a Million dollars we’ve now been able to spread to various non-profit organizations who really put all their effort into helping our neighbors who need some assistance to get through day-to-day. God bless all of those organizations, and may there be a day in the not-to-distant future when their efforts will not be necessary. In the meantime, we’ll still be out their trying to help, and I pray that everyone will continue to help us raise those very needed funds.

  2. Chris, thanks for being there for the drawing and the article you posted on the reporter.
We have done well ( KoC) with the help of all participants and your follow up.

BEHIND A SUCCESSFUL MAN THERE IS A WOMAN. Thanks Yvette!
