Holliston Police Department: December 2021 Update

Personnel Highlights

• During the month of December, all department members reviewed Policy 2.18 “Homeland Security.”
• During the month of December, all department members reviewed Policy 2.19 “NESPIN (New England State Police Information Network).”
• On December 5, 2021, Chief Stone reached sixteen years (16) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
• On December 6 – 10, 2021, Sergeant Remkus attended a five-day “MPTC Instructor Certification – Firearms Handgun Instructor” course in Springfield, MA.
• On December 7, 2021, Lieutenant Leurini attended a “Safe Routes to School (SRTS)” meeting via Zoom.
• On December 7th and 9th, 2021, Chief Stone presented a “Workplace Violence” workshop for Town of Holliston employees in the upper Town Hall.
• On December 8, 2021, Chief Stone attended the “Traffic Advisory Committee (TAC)” meeting via Zoom.
• On December 8, 2021, Chief Stone attended the annual “Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council (Metro-LEC)” meeting in Westwood, MA. The Holliston Police Department was welcomed as one of Metro-LEC’s newest member agencies.
• On December 10, 2021, Officer Palencia attended a one-day “Roadside Drug Investigations Seminar” at the Webster Police Department.
• On December 13, 2021, Chief Stone, School Resource Officer Digiorgio, and School Resource Officer Woods attended a “School Safety Committee” meeting at Holliston Public School’s Central Office.
• On December 14, 2021, Chief Stone presented the department’s lifesaving award to Officer Tim Heney, Officer Scott Downey, Officer Bryan Digiorgio, and Officer-in-Training Alex Keefe for their successful lifesaving efforts of a male party who suffered a cardiac arrest episode at the CVS pharmacy on December 2, 2021.
• On December 15, 2021, Chief Stone attended a department head meeting at the town hall.
• On December 15, 2021, Lieutenant Thompson held his monthly meeting with Sergeant Hagan.
• On December 15, 2021, Lieutenant Leurini submitted a traffic safety information system improvement grant in the about of $90,000. This program supports projects that improve the accessibility, accuracy, completeness, integration, timeliness, and/or uniformity (performance attributes) of one or more of the following six core traffic records systems of the Commonwealth: crash, roadway, inventory, vehicle registration, driver history, citation/adjudication, and EMS/injury surveillance.
• During the month of December, Sergeant/K-9 Hagan and K-9 Mattis completed their mandatory 16 hours of in-service training with the Boston Police K-9 Unit.

Community Relations

• During the month of December, the Holliston Police Department participated in the second annual “Dinner on Us” program. Throughout the month, a hot meal was ordered from one of three local restaurants and paid for by the police department. A hot meal was then delivered each night throughout the month of December by a Holliston Police Officer along with a handwritten note to the family or senior recipient. This community outreach initiative brought out the best in all of us and we hope to continue this new tradition during next holiday season.
• On December 4, 2021, members of the Holliston Police Department participated in the annual “Fill-A-Cruiser” event to help support the United States Marine Corps Reserve “Toys for Tots” program.
• On December 9, 2021, Chief Stone and Lieutenant Leurini attended the swearing in ceremony for the new Sherborn Police Chief Thomas Galvin.
• On December 11, 2021, several members of the Holliston Police Department assisted in collecting a large toy donation from Authentic Auto Body in support of the United States Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots Program.
• On December 15, 2021, several members of the Holliston Police Department helped to serve a holiday lunch at the Holliston Senior Center.
• On December 16, 2021, several members of the Holliston Police Department participated in the annual “Shop with a Cop” event at the Walmart store in Framingham, MA. Over 400 children from the Metro West area had the opportunity to “shop” for Christmas gifts alongside a police officer.
• On December 21, 2021, several members of the Holliston Police Department help to prepare and handout holiday “to go” lunches at the Holliston Senior Center.
