Holliston Police Department Monthly Overview – September 2019

PERSONNEL HIGHLIGHTS:

September 9, 2019, Officer Chris Avey began his first day of work as a Holliston Police Officer. 

September 13, 2019 – Officer Todd Hagan and K-9 Mattis graduated from the 6-week Boston Police K-9 Narcotics Detection Academy. 

September 16, 2019, School Resource Officers Digiorgio and Woods attended a one day “Autism Awareness for Law Enforcement Seminar” training at Roger Williams University. 

September 25, 2019, Chief Stone and Lieutenant Thompson held a meeting to go over the 2019-2020 regional in-service training program. Police Chiefs from Ashland, Sherborn, Hopkinton, Millis, and Medfield all attended this meeting along with members of their command staff. 

September 26, 2019, Crossing Guard Martha Ellis reached fourteen (14) years of service with the Holliston Police Department. 

September 26, 2019, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Thompson, Sergeant Dalrymple, Sergeant Leurini, Sergeant Waugh, Sergeant Belson, Sergeant Remkus, and Dispatch Supervisor Richards attended a half-day “Table-Top Exercise” training session at the Holliston Police Department. This training was conducted in partnership with Holliston Fire Department Command Staff and Holliston Public School Administrators from across the district. This training reviewed the Incident Command System (ICS) and presented two school safety scenarios for the group to work through.

September 30, 2019, the Board of Selectmen voted to promote Officer Todd Hagan to the rank of Sergeant and Sergeant George Leurini to the rank of Lieutenant.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS:

September 8, 2019, several members of the Holliston Police Department attended the Annual First Responder 9/11 award ceremony hosted by the American Legion. 

 September 14, 2019, School Resource Officer Woods and Sergeant Watson of the Medway Police Department conducted a “Bicycle Safety” event at the Placentino Elementary School. 

September 21, 2019, several members of the Holliston Police Department participated in the annual “Celebrate Holliston” event at Goodwill Park. 

September 23, 2019, Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog (MAVAD) and Fox 25 news came to the Holliston Police Department for a special segment on Police K-9’s.    Video Here: https://vimeo.com/362652359

September 25, 2019, School Resource Officer Digiorgio assisted 3-year-old Declan Vail and his family with a police escort from Holliston into Boston for his cancer treatment. 

September 27, 2019, Chief Stone attended the annual “Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony” at the Massachusetts State House in Boston, MA. 

September 28, 2019, Officer Todd Hagan and K-9 Mattis attended the annual “Classic Car Show” fundraiser that helps support Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog and police K-9 teams from across the state of Massachusetts. A portion of the profits raised at this fundraising event will help purchase a bullet/stab resistant vest for K-9 Mattis. 

September 30, 2019, Lieutenant Thompson and Dispatch Supervisor Richards attended to the “Pink Patch Project” law enforcement photo event at Gillette Stadium.

UPCOMING EVENTS

October 1, 2019 – Members of the Holliston Police Department are participating in the “Pink Patch Project” through October 31, 2019.

October 7, 2019 – Lieutenant Leurini will begin a six-week classroom/online “Executive Development” course at Roger Williams University. All members of the Command Staff have completed this training course. 

October 17, 2019 – Student Officer Hannah Ciavarra is expected to graduate from the MPTC-Lowell police academy. She will begin her 12-week Field Training Program during the week of October 20th. 

October 17, 2019 – Sergeant Dalrymple will be hosting his monthly “Coffee with a Cop” event at the Holliston Senior Center. 

October 21, 2019 – Swearing-in ceremony at the Select Board Meeting beginning at 7:00PM at Town Hall. Promotion of Lieutenant George Leurini, Promotion of Sergeant Todd Hagan, Officer Christopher Avey, and Officer Hannah Ciavarra. 

October 26, 2019 – National “Prescription Drug Take Back Day” at Holliston Police Department from 10 AM – 2 PM. 

October 27, 2019 – Holliston Police Department will host the second annual “Pumpkin Patrol” event at the police station. Event is FREE and runs from 10AM-2PM. Kids are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes. Pumpkin decorating. Games. Candy. 

October 28, 2019 – Members of the Command Staff will attend the annual Special Town Meeting at Holliston High School.
