Holliston Police Department Monthly Update: May 2021

PERSONNEL HIGHLIGHTS:

During the month of May, all department members reviewed Policy 2.07 “Sexual Assault Investigations.”
During the month of May, all department members reviewed Policy 2.08 “Missing Persons.”
During the month of May, all department members reviewed Policy 7.17 “Regional Safekeep.”
During the month of May, all department members reviewed Policy 3.01 “Transportation of Prisoners.”
During the month of May, all department members completed their “Firearms Qualification” course as part of their annual in-service training requirement. The training was held at the Hopkinton Sportsmen Club.
On May 3 – 14, 2021, Officer Grace attended a two-week “Crash Reconstruction” course at the Andover Police Department.
On May 5, 2021, Lieutenant Leurini, Sergeant Waugh, Officer Ciavarra, and Dispatcher Lodola held interviews in the John Johnson training room for the position of “Full-time Police Dispatcher.”
On May 4, 2021, Lieutenant Thompson and Lieutenant Leurini attended a one-day course entitled “Fair and Impartial Policing” at the Southbridge Hotel and Conference Center. This course was paid for and sponsored by the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC). On May 9, 2021,
Officer Andrew MacGray reached nineteen (19) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
On May 9th – 15th, the Holliston Police Department participated in “National Police Week” to recognize all of the police officers who have been killed in the line of duty.
On May 12, 2021, Lieutenant Thompson, Officer Griffith, and Officer Coakley attended a one-day “Mental Health First Aid” training course at the Hopkinton Police Department.
On May 18, 2021, Lieutenant George Leurini and Sergeant Todd Hagan reached eighteen (18) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
On May 18, 2021, Chief Stone and Lieutenant Leurini participated in a “Traffic Advisory Meeting” via Zoom.
On May 20 – 21, 2021, Officer Coakley attended a two-day “MPTC Instructor Certification – Firearms Instructor Development” course at the Massachusetts State Police Academy in New Braintree, MA.
On May 24 – 28, 2021, Officer Coakley attended a five-day “MPTC Instructor Certification – Firearms Handgun Instructor” course in Medfield, MA.
On May 26, 2021, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Thompson, Lieutenant Leurini, and Hudson Police Chief Richard DiPersio conducted promotional interviews for two candidates for the rank of Sergeant.
During the month of May, Sergeant/K-9 Hagan and K-9 Mattis completed their mandatory 16 hours of in-service training with the Boston Police K-9 Unit.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS:

On May 4, 2021, several members of the Holliston Police Department partnered with Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Community Action Team (CAT) and participated in our annual “Coffee with a Cop” event in front of Coffee Haven.
On May 12, 2021, Lieutenant Leurini attended the monthly meeting of the “Holliston Drug and Alcohol Awareness Coalition (HDAAC).”
On May 14, 2021, Officer Coakley assisted the Millis Police Department with escorting the Millis High School graduation parade on the police department’s motorcycle (MC-1).
On May 14, 2021, several members of the Holliston Police Department participated in the annual “Police Memorial Day” observation event at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Holliston Police Officers were joined by members of fallen Holliston Police Officer John Johnson’s family.
On May 22, 2021, several members of the Holliston Police Department and members of the Holliston Auxiliary Police assisted the Holliston High School Administration with escorting the Class of 2021 graduation parade throughout Holliston.
On May 26, 2021, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Thompson, Lieutenant Leurini, Sergeant Belson, and School Resource Officer Digiorgio partnered with the Holliston Public Schools and “Safe Routes to School” to participate in the annual “Walk/Bike to School Day.” The Holliston Police Department was also joined by Select Board Chair Tina Hein, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Susan Kustka, and Trooper Aaron Richardson from the Massachusetts State Police H-Troop Community Action Team (CAT).
On May 29, 2021, School Resource Officer Woods joined several surrounding communities to participate in the “Ride for Declan” event for a 5-year-old Holliston resident Declan Vail who is battling a brain tumor.
On May 31, 2021, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Thompson, Lieutenant Leurini, Sergeant Dalrymple, Sergeant Waugh, Sergeant Remkus, and Officer Downey marched in the annual Memorial Day parade.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Saturday, June 12th – “Massachusetts Special Olympics Cruiser Convoy” – the Holliston Police Department will once again be participating in the annual “Cruiser Convoy” to celebrate the achievements and to help benefit Special Olympics Massachusetts athletes. Several regional Cruiser Convoy locations throughout the state allows police departments support the athletes who live, work, and compete in their communities through this parade-style event.
Saturday, June 26th- The Holliston Police Department will be joining the Massachusetts State Police and several other local police departments to help support Malia Jusczyk on her road to recover and to celebrate her 13th birthday. Malia is currently fighting cancer for the second time and was diagnosed with a high risk, aggressive childhood cancer. This cruiser convoy hopes to bring a smile to Malia’s face and remind her that she’s not in this fight along. Police departments from around the area will be showering her with encouraging and uplifting cards delivered by the cruiser convoy.
Wednesday, June 23rd – The Holliston Police Department will be hosting our first annual “Pizza with Police” event at Bazel’s Pizza from 2:00PM to 5:00PM. This community outreach event is free of charge and is designed to generate conversation between our police department and the community. Thursday, July 15th – The Holliston Police Department will once again be partnering with Boston Children’s Hospital to host a community blood drive event. The BCH blood mobile will be parked in the front parking lot of the police station from 9:00AM-3:00PM to collect much needed blood donations. More information about this event will be posted to our HPD social media platforms in the coming weeks.
