Holliston’s First Asian American Student Association

Founders: Allyson Lee, Ella Roth and Annanya Gargy ( not pictured)

Holliston High School Senior Allyson Lee is determined to make a difference in our community. This past week, during during the Holliston High School Club Fair, she launched the first ever Asian American Student Association. Allyson is a senior this year and want to start something that can create a lasting safe and inviting space for the under represented minority in the school and neighborhood for future students

Allyson has lived in Holliston her entire life. Stories during COVID made an impression especially with the Asian hate stories. She has always been a perfect student – never speaking out, getting good grades, not wanting to make waves. Then a raise of AAPI groups providing support to these issues. Leading to the recent racial graffiti that has been plaguing the Holliston school system. Knowing that this will highlight her to these individuals. Recognizing that she is a senior in HS she knew she couldn’t sit in the sidelines any longer.

Allyson realized that that Asian Americans are often viewed as the model minority and often under represented and overlooked and wanted to create something meaningful for the current and future students within Holliston.

Congratulations to Allyson, we know she’ll go far and thank you for helping keep our students informed.

  1. I congratulate Allyson Lee !
It seems to me that this new Association is long overdue.
I am wondering why the Faculty did not think of this sooner?
I don’t recall how new Student Associations are formed at HHS, by the Students alone? or can the Teachers provide input.
Our youngest Child graduated in 2000, so I have lost that connection to the schools.
This reminds me of the Students who Founded the very 1st Gay Staight Alliance at HHS, back in Sept/Oct of 1996.
We were so proud of our Daughter, and her Friends, who were the Original Members. My Family supported them all the way.
I hope that all the Students will be inspired by Allyson, to form other new Student Associations at the School. Whatever is needed.

  2. I’m happy to see this happening in our community. The violence against Asian Americans has been alarmingly prevalent since summer of 2020. Organizations like this are how we can affect change.
