HPD Honors Holliston Vets

Chief Matthew Stone and Legion Commander Steve Bradford check to be sure everything is ready for the guests of honor.
Chief Stone welcomed the guests and thanked them for their service – then invited everyone to enjoy the breakfast.
Commander Bradford added his welcome to the vets and, on behalf of the vets, thanked the HPD for this acknowledgement of the vets’ service.
The picture tells the story about the food, camaraderie, and coffee.
HPD’s Court Officer Dan Griffith shared information about the Middlesex County Veterans Treatment Court. It is one of six in the Commonwealth and relies on veteran mentors to support convicted vets through a five phase program.
Vietnam Vet Herb Brockert serves as a mentor for convicted vets and he shared some of his insights about the unique program.
Ashley Scionti from Advocates, a co-response assistance service, spoke about how she and her colleagues provide de-escalation and jail diversion to Holliston, Ashland, and Sherborn.

Sara Bateman and Jill Murray, Veterans Service Officers, who work in Holliston at the Vets’ Office at 1750 Washington Street, described their work as “411 for vets.” A counselor is available at their office by appointment on Wednesdys and Fridays.

Charles ‘Chip’ Fagan wore several hats during his time with the group.

Mr. Fagan introduced the group to Clear Path New England, a veterans’ support organization. A complete listing of their services can be found on their website www.clearpathne.org.

Toys for Tots was his next topic. He has worked with HPD for the past 13 years collecting gifts for this annual Marine Corps effort. Collection is going on now through December 13, 2019 in the HPD lobby.

Last, he spoke about the Young Marines program. The program is organized by the Marine Corps League and teaches youngsters 8 – 18 about America and military service, including discipline and close order drill.

Chief Stone and SGT Glenn Dalrymple closed the session by once again thanking everyone for their service and planting the seed for more of these gatherings in the future.
