The Friends of the Holliston Public Library will present “Tales From the Home of the World’s Worst Weather” on Thursday, January 13, at 7 PM. Brian Fitzgerald (photo below left) from the Mount Washington Observatory in North Conway, New Hampshire, will share stories from this continuously staffed scientific outpost from 1932 until the present. The program is virtual and interested patrons should register online to receive a Zoom link one week before the program.
Chef Liz Barbour (photo above right) will show cooks how to make “Gnocchi Two Ways” on Monday, January 24, at 7 PM. Gnocchi is an Italian dumpling made of potato. This is a virtual program and participants may cook along with Liz or just watch. Registering online includes a Zoom link and the recipes in advance.
The Morning Book Club will discuss The Girl with Seven Names: A North Korean Defector’s Story, by Hyeonseo on Monday, January 3, at 11 AM. The Mystery Book Club will read The Stranger Diaries by Elly Griffith on Tuesday, January 11, at 11 AM. The History Book Club meets on Monday, January 24 at 10:30 am to share King Leopold’s Ghost by Adam Hochschild. All three groups offer both in-person and virtual attendance simultaneously and welcome new members. Register to receive a Zoom invitation. Copies of books are available about one month prior to the discussions at the library.
Misha and the Wolves will be the selected film for Movie Mondays on Monday, January 10 at 12:30 PM. The film is seen in person.
Readers who would like to learn how to use electronic books, downloadable audiobooks, and digital magazines are offered training for beginners on Tuesday, January 11, 10 to 11:30 AM at the library. Participants should bring their device, their Amazon login and password for a Kindle, and their Apple ID for i-Pads and i-Phones if these logins are not saved on the device already. There will also be an in-person training at the Senior Center on Tuesday, January 25 at 10 AM.
