The Holliston Library Trustees met remotely Wednesday (5.4.22) evening, welcoming Mareourn “Bo” Yai (below Left), a resident who is running for the vacant Trustees’ position, opened as Bob Ostrow completes his term. Two members, Gwenyth Swain and Kristy Wiwzcar, are presently Trustees seeking re-election.
Following the acceptance of last month’s meeting minutes, Leslie McDonnell (above Right), Library Director, provided a brief COVID update. Face masks continue to be optional in the library, but most volunteers and employees continue to wear them. Masks for both children and adults are available by patron request.
Trustee Ostrow updated the group concerning the hiring committee’s progress toward the selection of a new Director upon the retirement of McDonnell. Background checks are in progress for selected candidates.
Concerning the update to the Collection Development Policy, McDonnell noted that both the Town Administrator and Town Counsel had been consulted. The Trustees unanimously approved the revised policy.
The Library’s grandfather clock is due for a cleaning. McDonnell will contact Povall Antique Clock and Repair & Restoration for the service. Trustees remembered the years John Losch had performed this service and were thinking of him. Funding for the cleaning will be provided from the gift account.
McDonnell will also ask the Friends of the Library for a lightweight vacuum and a potential discount pass to the Davis Farmland in Sterling, MA. Additionally, she is considering some renovation to an unused coat closet in the Gilman Room.
McDonnell is awaiting notification this summer from the MA Library Commission Grant program for a grant she and Children’s Librarian Jen Carlson submitted. If awarded, the grant will support additional educational play equipment for the Children’s Library.
Chair Karla Alfred adjourned the meeting at 7:57 PM. The Trustees meet again on June 1, 2022, at 7 PM.
