Pickleball Courts Open at Goodwill Park!

Holiston Reporter

From Mark Frank, Parks and Recreation Director

Holliston Parks and Recreation is excited to announce that we have installed two Pickleball courts on the existing tennis courts at Goodwill Park.  Pickleball is one of the fastest growing recreational activities in the country, and its popularity is sweeping through communities everywhere.

For those who have never heard of Pickleball:  Pickleball is a paddle sport played with a whiffle ball on a smaller sized tennis-style court. There is a non-volley area near the net that prevents the ball from being spiked near the net, and the serving team cannot volley the return of the serve. These rules allow for players of all ages and varying mobility levels play on equal footing.  The game is wonderful for all ages, for families to play together and for seniors as well.

Beyond its surface level appeal, Pickleball has become a bit of a social phenomenon as well.  With groups regularly organizing to play together in large social settings that promote exercise, camaraderie and sportsmanship.  We are thrilled to be adding this as an option for Holliston residents.

The Parks and Recreation Department has been looking for a location for permanent Pickleball courts for some time, and as we continue to do that, we hope that this temporary solution will help foster a Pickleball community with whom we can consult for future plans as we explore them.

Pickleball is currently available on a first come-first serve basis at the first tennis court at Goodwill Park. There are two courts (one on each side of the tennis net); the lines are taped in yellow, and the Pickleball nets are on wheels off to the side of the court.

We’d like to thank local residents Kevin Conley and Marc Golding for their help and consultation on getting these courts taped and ready.  If you have any questions about play, or want to borrow some equipment from us to give it a try, please call our office at 508-429-2149.

  1. Unfortunately, the taping used to mark the court lines was ripped up over the weekend. Security camera footage is being reviewed. Painting the lines on is being explored by Parks & Rec staff.
