Read with Aesop’s

October is National Cookbook month and it’s no wonder why.  Who doesn’t want to get in the kitchen when the temperatures start to dip. It’s harvest time and the rich flavors of fall produce are in abundance.  Time to start baking and there’s no better place to start than with versatile, delicious pies!  So here is our October book pick – The Book on Pie by Erin Jeanne McDowell.

This cookbook could double as a coffee table book with all of its gorgeous and mouthwatering photographs.  It’s a feast for the eyes!  But don’t let that fool you, it is also jam packed with page after page of mouthwatering recipes for crusts, fillings and toppings. Included with recipes are suggestions on how to make variations to achieve your very own pie perfection. I especially love that this cookbook is perfect for any baker from novice to experienced.  Lots of tips and tricks are woven throughout – everyone will learn something new!

“Erin Jeanne McDowell, New York Times contributing baker extraordinaire and top food stylist, wrote the book on pie, a comprehensive handbook that distills all you’ll ever need to know for making perfect pies. The Book on Pie starts with the basics, including ways to mix pie dough for extra flaky crusts, storage and freezing, recipe size conversions, and expert tips for decorating and styling, before diving into the recipes for all the different kinds of pies: fruit, custard, cream, chiffon, cold set, savory, and mini. Find everything from classics like Apple Pie and Pumpkin Pie, to more inspired recipes like Birthday-Cake Pie and Caramel Pork Pie with Chile and Scallions.“

The Book on Pie is 10% off at Aesop’s Fable for the month of October.  We hope you will read (and bake) with us this month!
