School Committee: April 17, 2025 Recap

The Holliston School Committee met on Thursday, April 17, 2025 in the Holliston High School Library to discuss:

● District Data Presentation

● Update on the May 2025 Capital Request

● 8th Grade Algebra Discussion

The meeting began with public comment from Barbara Ryan wishing everyone a great spring break. Following public comment, Superintendent Susan Kustka and Director of Technology and Digital Learning Dan MacLeod presented Holliston Public School’s ranking data. This discussion included reviews of rankings from sources such as Niche, US News and World Report, and Boston Magazine and also focused on student performance on testing such as AP exams, SAT and MCAS. Next, updates from Central Office included Superintendent Roundtable Student discussions at the High School and a successful Unified Basketball game at RAMS vs the Holliston Fire and Police departments. (minute 1:15:25)

The HSC voted to update the May 2025 capital request from $48,300 to $23,600 for high school supplies. (minute 1:21:15) Additionally there was a discussion on how the 8th grade geometry standards would be delivered to those students taking a full year of 8th grade Algebra next year. (minute 1:25:52) Next, Dr. Jordan gave an update on some of the work underway to implement the new school start times in the fall. (minute 1:35:40)

Finally, as a note, at the April 10, 2025 meeting the Holliston School Committee voted to rescind the A/B schedule for the 2025/26 school year and continue with the current schedule until the 2026/27 school year.

The HSC will meet next on May 1, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.
