Monday evening, the Select Board convened in special session to swear in four Holliston Police Department members to their new roles. The crowd was large enough to warrant holding the session in the Upper Town Hall. Several photos follow that capture the important milestone in these officers’ police careers.
Select Board Chair Mark Ahronian opened the meeting and welcomed all in attendance to this very special occasion.
Family, friends, and fellow officers from nearby towns and the State Police were on hand to lend support to these officers as the assumed their new roles.
Chief Matthew Stone acted as Master of Ceremonies, introducing the town and state dignitaries in attendance.

Ben Kaplan delivered State Citations to each of the officers on behalf of Representative Dykema
Officer Hanna Ciavarra, is sworn in by Town Clerk Liz Greendale while her family looks on. Officer Ciavarra recently completed the Lowell Police Academy, earning the Officer Sean Collier Honor Graduate distinction. Officer Ciavarra’s mother, Christine pinned on Hanna’s badge. By the way, Officer Ciavarra’s field training began Monday evening.
After Officer Chris Avey was sworn in by the Town Clerk, his badge was pinned by his father LT (retired) Don Avey formerly of the Marlboro Police Department. Officer Avey comes to Holliston with extensive prior training and experience.
Newly promoted SGT Todd Hagan (without his K-9 partner Mattis) was sworn in by the Town Clerk. His wife pinned on his new badge as his children look on.
HPD’s newest Lieutenant, George Leurini, a sixteen year veteran on the local force, has his badge pinned on by his sister, MA State Police Trooper Carol Leurini as his family looks on.
Congratulations to each of these officers as they set out to perform the duties that keep our community safe.
The officers, families, and friends enjoyed socializing with cake while the Select Board moved downstairs to conduct the remainder of the evening’s agenda.

The Holliston Select Board convened its first meeting of 2023 at 7:00pm on January 9, 2023. Chair Ben Sparrell has shared with me that he works hard each week to find the best adjective to describe the evening’s agenda – this week an “informative agenda.”
Approximately 120 people Zoomed in or dialed in to the Select Board’s Public Forum regarding Lowland Industrial Park traffic. The meeting convened precisely at 7:00 pm, Tuesday August 25th, with Select Board Chair John Cronin outlining the format and ground rules for the session.
