The Greater Holliston Senior Men’s Golf Association (GHSMGA) continued its tradition of turning the proceeds from its weekly winnings / losses into a large donation for those in need.
League “Commissioner” Wally Thornton (below right) hands the donation to Pantry Shelf Treasurer Dave Franco (center) as Chris Cain looks on to witness the transfer on behalf of the entire membership.

This year’s $2,000 donation is the group’s sixth annual gift and puts the total amount given to over $7,000. Mr. Franco commented that “the timing of the gift will help the Pantry to provide food and gift cards when they are most appreciated.”
The active membership of the organization is around twenty intrepid golfers who play year-round – outdoors from March / April to early November and indoors for its “Winter Tour” at Dr. Greens indoor simulators. The phrase “Greater Holliston” has become more expansive as members choose to relocate to warmer climes and yet continue to support the annual fundraising effort.
Recently, the group held its annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony. Shown below are most of the “local” members from Holliston, Milford, and Upton.

Familiar accomplishments such as Low Gross and Low Net scores are tracked throughout the season. The Scottish gent, Ritchie Cummings, took home Low Gross (again) and Peter Eagan to Ritchie’s left snagged this year’s Low Net. Congratulations.
If you look closely at the left edge of the above photo, there is a blue pennant with an embroidered gold dollar sign. The base of the “trophy” is adorned with coins. The “Money Ball” trophy goes to the player with the most winnings during the outdoor season. Wally Thornton (second to the right from Ritchie) took home the trophy which will be adorning his mantle until next season. The winners are shown below.

Of course, the real winner in every category is the Holliston Pantry Shelf.
