Traffic Advisory Committee Meets

Holliston Reporter

The Town’s TAC (Traffic Advisory Committee), chaired by Police Chief Matt Stone met virtually on Wednesday, December 9th, from 10 am to 11:10 am.

TAC Chair, HPD Chief Matthew Stone

Attending the meeting were: Chief Stone, Chief Cassidy, Henry Dellicker, Stacey Raffi, Drew Horton, and Select Board member Tina Hein.

Chief Stone noted the TAC received 38 traffic petitions (traffic concerns) to date. A large number of complaints came from the Fiske, Bullard, and Lowland Streets area, with several from Locust, High, Marshall, and South Streets. Chief Stone and the committee will tackle these complaints beginning at the next meeting on January 13th.

Chief Stone has appointed Lt. George Leurini to his department’s Traffic Safety Unit.

DPW Director Sean Reese

DPW Chief Sean Reese said he received a request for a “Deaf Child” traffic sign on Union Street and “Stop Sign” at the intersection of Mill and N.Mill Street.

Holliston’s recent town meeting voted to enhance the TAC’s tools to the tune of $52,500. This figure includes purchase of a new message board, a statistical track data collector as well as monies for 30 new traffic signs to designate the new speed limit of 25 mph around town “unless otherwise posted.”

The committee’s concerns surfaced about educating the public about the new speed limits changing on January 1st. All available means of communication will be deployed to alert drivers to the new limits, including social media, texting, the town’s blackboard, tax bills, weekly school packets, and the message board at town hall.

TAC members will wait at least six months before advising on the lowering of speed in the downtown business district.

Ironically, while TAC was in session, a South Street resident called the police for traffic enforcement.

When their session ended at 11:10 am, a motor vehicle accident was reported in the town center on Central Street involving a car and oil delivery truck.
