Week #2: Holliston Senior Softball Wrap-Up: (thru 4/25)

Holliston Reporter

Week 2:

Kampersal continued its early offensive explosion with another 20+ run performance in a 24-5 beat down of Queens.  Seems the addition of the 2 LDT All-stars via the league transfer portal has rejuvenated the offense as 3B Keith Carlton had 4 hits and 5 RBI while fellow LDT alum OF Dennis Dietz had a pair of 2-run doubles. Rookie 1B Alex Kampersal continued to impress with another moon shot that hit a cow, we think, on his cousin’s farm in deep left field at Kampersal.

Kampersal Farm will now be fitting their cows with this headgear when nephew, Alex plays at their field.

Mudville doubled up the new kids on the block, Johnson North, 20-10 behind OF Eric Higgens 3 hits and 4RBI’s.  Player-manager, Eric Kuharich seemed to put the fireworks demons behind him after an inspirational Zoom call with Buccaneer, JPP, and had 2 doubles and 4RBI’s.

The Hood beat Lions 12-5 though, OF Ernie ‘the Hit-Man’ Tomacelli had 3 hits andall 5 RBI in the losing effort.  Downtown edged Jasper Rock, 10-7 as OF Tim McCarron had 3 hits and 3 RBI while lead-off hitter LF Scott Burke had 2 hits and scored 3 times.   At Stoddard Beach, Braggville overcame a slow start and beat DYR 19-8, behind the bats of the ageless Paul Murphy and LF Dan Kittredge who combined for 9 hits and 10 RBI.  13 of the 18 runs came with 2-outas the Braggville offense took advantage of the late-day blinding sunshine and launched balls into left field at your humble correspondent who could only hear the balls whistle by my ear as they ran around the bases.  I submit this report using Dragon’s voice-to-text software as my retina’s are still so damaged, I can’t see my keyboard.  My appointment at Mass Eye & Ear is Thursday…. your thoughts and prayers are welcome.

DYR LF Ken Sawyers being helped to his car by a good Samaritan after the Braggville game.

South moved to 2-0 with a 17-8 romp over Brentwood as OF Jason Smith went 4-5 with a HR while P Greg Copeland put the starting pitching controversy to bed giving up just 3 ER in 7 innings of work.  Sources tell me player-manager Bryan Sweeney is none too pleased with the situation and his move to catcher, but the clubhouse fully supports Copeland. Players may look to put OF Dave Franco in charge as his calm, steady demeanor aligns well with the team’s current make up versus the volatile Sweeney.  More to come in the weeks ahead, I’m sure…

In the Game of the week, Anthony’s continued its hot start with another win over an ‘A’ opponent and took down Dalton Rd, 10-8.  P Alan Lisak helped his cause at the plate with 2 hits and 3RBI while OF Mike DelPrete added 2 hits and 2 RBI in the win. Dalton Rd dropped to 0-2 for the first time since 2012 and manager Steve Cotto will have to work some magic to avoid this season slipping away before Memorial Day as the infighting has begun. Reports are OF Tim McDevitt and 3B Mike Silk had to be separated by teammates in the men’s room at Anthony’s on the Green post game.  Not sure why there were so many of them in a 2-stall urinal but, glad the situation did not escalate.

The 2021 Dalton Rd season so far sitting at (0-2).

GAME OF THE WEEK for WK #3 (5/2/21)

Kampersal (2-0) vs Braggville (2-0): @ Stoddard Park, 6pm

  • Can ‘new look’ Kampersal finally take down the perennial power? Can those new additions handle the big game atmosphere?  We know Braggville relishes the spotlight and will be ready to go- just hoping player-manager Tom Kampersal can walk the fine line of motivating his players versus ridiculing them…
  • We’ll have a full report of this game next week.
