Previously written off by this reporter, Dalton Rd (the dumpster fire 2 wks ago) rose from the ashes and stunned the HSS world, ending Bragville’s 21-game winning streak with a 12-10 win. 2B Jamie Ross’ 6th inning fly ball was lost in the lights by the Braggville left fielder which led to a 3-run inning and Dalton held on for the win. P Dave Birmingham went the distance and received help from his defense when he needed it most as RF Rob Waddell made a tremendous catch at the fence in the 5th to thwart a Braggville rally. The return of SS Dan ‘Prime-Time” Geary from his exclusive vacation home provided a much-needed spark for teammates. Kudos to manager, Steve Cotto for spear-heading this season-saving win.
Kampersal slipped past The Hood, 6-5 behind C Jay Morrissey’s 2-out RBI single in the bottom of the 6th that clinched the win. Jay can now take the rest of the season off… Rookie sensation 1B Alex Kampersal is likely done for the season after breaking his thumb mishandling a fondue pot during a book club meeting at his home. Manager Tom Kampersal is under 24-hr surveillance while EMT’s and The Betty Ford Clinic are on standby as the volatile manager digests the news. It appears, at first glance, he’s having a hard time.. (see below).
The Hood welcomed new OF Brock Lesnar (or his doppelganger) to the team who promptly hit a bomb that was tracked down by Kampy’s LF Chris Boggess. He caught it with his back to home plate and just shy of the horse stables on Kampersal Farm. Hood manager Shawn Peters is excited about the future for sure but, concerned about the heart of his order. For the second week in a row, a top 4 batter struck out in a key spot. This week, in the top of the 6th , slugger 3B Jeff Marshall took 2 straight strikes and went down looking and killed any hope of a rally. Hopefully Brock can pick up the slack.
Anthony’s East remained unbeaten as they smacked Johnson North, 12-3 behind LF Ben Pratt’s 3 hits and 4 RBI. 1B Alan Lisak contributed with 2 doubles and 3 RBI in the win. For the second time in as many weeks, Jasper Rock put up 20+ runs as they pummeled Lions, 28-7 as Derek Cordon threw for 325 yards and 3 TD’s while Doug Herman had 8 catches for 187 yds and 2 TD’s.
In the Game of the Week, South remained undefeated needing extra innings to comeback and beat DYR, 11-10 as LF Greg Copeland provided a walk off double to score Ryan Looney with the winning run in the 8th. Pitching with a chip on his shoulder, P Bryan Sweeney twirled a gem not giving up a run after the 4th to give his team a chance at the comeback.
Mudville edged Downtown. 3-2 on a walk-off walk. Yes, that’s right…a walk. After an infield single, error, and a fielder’s choice put a runner on 3rd with 1-out, Downtown skipper/pitcher, John Potemri elected to walk the bases loaded to create a force anywhere. . .
Aaaaand, he then proceeded to walk the next batter- BALL GAME OVER… Troubling news post-game from the Downtown clubhouse as LF Tim McCarron was seen leaving with his left arm in a sling. Seems his unsuccessful dive at a sinking line drive off the bat off of 70’s rocker, Steve Miller may land him on the DL for an extended period of time. Sources within the McCarron home tell me it could be career threatening and an appointment with famed orthopedic surgeon, James Andrews is upcoming. More on this in the weeks ahead.
Brentwood 15 Queens 4. Seems Queens forgot their gloves as P Gary DeAngelo was the hard luck loser despite giving up just 2 ER. He was let down by his defense repeatedly as Brentwood took advantage of 7 outfield errors.
GAME OF THE WEEK for WK #4 (5//9/21)
Anthony’s East (4-0) vs The Hood (2-2): @ Stoddard 6pm
- Can Anthony’s continue its assault on ‘A’ division opponents as they battle an angry Hood squad who’s lost their last 2 games by a total of 4 runs? Look for Brock to have an impact offensively for Hood.
- We’ll have a full report of this game next week.
Ken…just wanted to thank you for not specifically mentioning the name of the Braggville left fielder that “lost the ball in the lights” and cost them the game. That would’ve been really embarrassing for him. Much appreciated!!! Keep up the great work. Love reading this article every week.
I was 50-50 on it, Ted. As u know very well, I’ve been there too. Thx for the note.
Big Thunder, you continue to report the truth and nothing but the truth with a seriously funny twist!
