August 25 Coronavirus Update

Ensuring that our first responders have the equipment, funding, and support they need to meet the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic is a top priority for our federal, state, and local governments.

This week, the Commonwealth announced $9.6 million in grant funding through the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program, which is capitalized through federal funds, authorized by the Legislature, and distributed through the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.

Over $3 million was distributed directly to public safety departments in 94 cities and towns, including the Hopkinton Fire Department, which received over $6,400 for PPE and cleaning equipment, and the Westborough Fire Department, which received over $49,900 for PPE and sanitization services.

An additional $6.6 million was awarded in grants to statewide agencies who provide public safety services and support including the National Guard, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, and the Department of Corrections. More information on the grant and this round of awards can be found here.
