Federal Stimulus Bill – “CARES Act”
Many people are awaiting details on how the new federal stimulus program will be implemented and how quickly relief will be available. These details are still emerging and I’ll provide information as soon as it’s available. Here are a summary of the legislation and fact sheets on the legislation’s expanded benefits relative to unemployment compensation and supports for small businesses.
Coronavirus Testing and Response
- There are 4,855 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth, with 399 hospitalizations and 48 deaths as of today at 4pm. For a breakdown of cases by county and age, check here.
- Over 39,066 tests have been conducted by the State Public Health Laboratory and private testing organizations.
Health Care
- The administration has proposed to convert skilled nursing facilites specifically to care for people with confirmed COVID-19. Secretary Sudders wrote in a March 27 letter that the state is taking “unprecedented steps” to establish skilled nursing facilities specifically to care for people with confirmed COVID-19 diagnoses. Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility in Worcester will be the first site.
- The state’s new COVID-19 PPE Procurement and Donation
Program streamlines procurement of personal protective
equipment (PPE) for healthcare providers. Procuring protective equipment for
the front lines is a priority effort. Needed equipment includes:
- N95/N99 masks (respirators)
- Facemasks with integrated shields
- Goggles
- Protective suits/gowns
- Headcovers
- Sanitizing wipes
- Surgical/procedure masks
- Powered Air-Purifying Respirators (PAPR)
- Gloves
- Booties/shoe covers
- Hand sanitizer
Resources for Residents Experiencing Job Loss or Loss of Income
COVID-19 is causing broad disruption to the economy which is affecting incomes of many residents and families. There are a number of state resources and supports available.
