HPD Monthly Update – January 2021

Personnel Highlights:

  • During the month of January, several members of the Holliston Police Department received their first of two COVID-19 vaccines as part of the Commonwealth’s Phase I Vaccination Plan.
  • During the month of January, all department members received “Low Light/Night” firearms instruction at the Hopkinton Sportsmen Club.
  • During the month of January, all department members received their annual “Legal Update” in-service training from Lieutenant Justin Hanrahan.
  • On January 4, 2021, Chief Stone participated in a Zoom call with Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian, and Police Chiefs from across Middlesex County to discuss the “Regional Safekeep Program” in which Holliston is an active member.
  • On January 4 – 15, 2021, Officer Charlie Grace attended an eighty (80) hour “Basic Crash Investigation” course at the Andover Police Department.
  • On January 6, 2021, Officer Ryan Parent and Officer Alex Hulme reached one (1) year of service with the Holliston Police Department
  • On January 6, 2021, Chief Stone participated in an online webinar sponsored by the International Chiefs of Police Association (IACP) entitled “A Conversation with Dr. Anthony Fauci” to discuss the effects of COVID-19 on first responders across the country.
  • On January 8, 2020, Officer John Loftus and Officer David Charette reached three (3) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On January 13, 2020, Officer John Scanlon each reached thirty-five (35) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On January 13, 2021, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Leurini, Sergeant Waugh, and Traffic Safety Officer Grace participated in a “Traffic Advisory Committee” meeting via Zoom.
  • On January 19, 2021, Lieutenant Leurini joined Select Woman Hein for a “Safe Routes to School (SRTS)” meeting.
  • On January 20, 2021, Lieutenant Thompson and Lieutenant Leurini attended Part I of a Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC) 6th edition update training via Zoom.
  • On January 20, 2021, Detective Maguire attended a Zoom meeting as a member of the Middlesex County “High Risk Domestic Violence” team.
  • On January 22, 2020, Officer Charles Grace reached three (3) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On January 25, 2021, interviews for full-time police officer were conducted in the John Johnson training room. The interview panel consisted of Chief Stone, Lieutenant Thompson, Lieutenant Leurini, Sergeant Belson, Officer MacGray, and Officer Charette.
  • On January 26, 2021, Lieutenant Leurini attended Part II of a Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC) 6th edition update training via Zoom.
  • On January 27, 2021, Lieutenant Thompson attended Part II of a Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC) 6th edition update training via Zoom.
  • On January 27, 2021, Lieutenant Leurini, Sergeant Waugh, and Officer Grace attended a training session on our newly acquired “StatTrack Speed Counter” device via Zoom.
  • On January 27, 2021, Chief Stone assisted Hudson Police Chief Richard DiPersio and his team with conducting interviews and selecting the new K-9 handler for the Hudson Police Department.
  • On January 27, 2021, Lieutenant Leurini attended a “Safe Routes to School” meeting via Zoom.
  • On January 27, 2021 Lieutenant Thompson held his monthly meeting with School Resource Officers Digiorgio and Woods.
  • On January 29, 2020, Lieutenant Chad Thompson reached twenty (20) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.

Community Relations:

NOTE: On March 13, 2020, Chief Stone administered a “Special Order” to all department personnel that limited close-proximity contacts with members of the public including many community interactions that typically occur each month.

  • On January 5, 2021, Lieutenant Leurini applied for and received a $2,500.00 grant from the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) to be used for Auxiliary Police operations.
  • On January 17, 2021, Lieutenant Leurini, Sergeant Waugh, Officer Downey, and Officer Woods participated in a birthday parade for Holliston Veteran Vincent Trunfio as he turned 95 years old.
  • On January 29, 2021, Chief Stone met with Select Board Chairman John Cronin, Town Administrator Travis Ahern, Senior Center Director Linda Marshall, Fire Chief Cassidy, and members of the Council on Aging, to discuss how the Town of Holliston can assist our elderly residents aged 75+ receive their COVID-19 vaccine.
