Last Meeting of 2019 for Council on Aging

Holliston Reporter

Director of Holliston’s Senior Center, Linda Marshall, delivered the Monthly Director’s Report during the Council on Aging meeting on Wednesday.

Marshall brought forward a wide array of topics with additional information provided by Chair Kevin Robert Malone and Council members.  Updating the Council on building issues, the front threshold, ceiling tile replacement, and newly installed window frames were addressed.  All of these areas need further attention for completion.

In the Fundraising category, Superette was recognized for another donation ($400.) collected from their change cup on the counter. Additionally, several donations were received in memory of long time Senior Center member and town employee Harvey Buck.  Grant approvals were not yet received from the Cultural Council.

Among the special programs noted by Marshall, these were highlighted:  AAA’s presentation on the new Real ID licenses (12-12); the holiday party (12-18) that now has a waiting list; a VFW/American Legion luncheon (1-5-20); Town Clerk Liz Greendale presenting the importance of the 2020 Census (1-23-20), results of which affect funding for the Senior Center for 10 years; and pool lessons on Wednesdays provided by members of the Center’s Pool Team.

News of present and upcoming events included the announcement of the hiring of Sharon Broadley, new Pilates instructor; the resumption of Monday night meditation class; and December 24th roast beef dinners provided to seniors who are alone for the holiday by the Lion’s Club (in partnership with St. Michael’s Church).  Gift items for seniors are being collected through December 13, and the Girl Scouts will wrap these on Sunday.  All present were pleased to hear of increased attendance at monthly breakfasts (attendance has more than doubled) and weekly lunches.

Marshall announced a new Bay Path representative, Georgia Papavasilliou, of Holliston.  The Council voted to approve Marshall’s preparation of the FY2021 budget and to include within it a new 19-hour position of Administrative Clerk.  The Director’s Evaluation Process is still awaiting information from Jeff Ritter, Town Manager.

There will be no January meeting; the date of the February meeting is TBD.
