After two days of cold rain the Town turned out in great numbers to pay tribute to those who gave their all for our nation. Below are some shots of those gathered.

Early Tuesday morning I received a call from yesterday’s Parade Marshal WWII vet Charlie Nickerson.
Charlie said he knew I’d be up early as I was a fellow farmer. Charlie went on to thank me profusely and the town for the honor he had at yesterday’s event. I could sense in his voice how happy this 95 1/2 year old real life hero and member of the “Greatest Generation” was for his day in the spot light that the town had afforded him. Charlie went on to say how good the town of Holliston has been to him. I tried to remind Charlie that it was he that had been good to the town, raising a family, employing dozens of kids at his Out Post Farm
and above all putting his butt on the line at a very early age. As a veteran myself, I couldn’t have been happier for this aging former member of the 82nd Airborne who dropped from the sky to surprise the Nazi’s some 77 years ago as part of the D-Day invasion.
Well done Town of Holliston Memorial Day Committee.
There is no organization in the U.S. armed forces with a more notable combat record than the 82nd Airborne Division. Bob Blair was spot on when he said it was an honor to be in the company of WW2 82nd vet Charlie Nickerson on Memorial Day. Mr. Nickerson participated in and survived on of the most historic events in world history. All of Holliston should feel privileged to have him as a neighbor.
