Police Log: March – September, 1950

FLYING SAUCERS OVER HOLLISTON

March 23, 1950 – Two residents of Winter street, Holliston, reported yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock that they saw what resembled seven or eight black discs for several seconds in the sky southeast of Holliston.

Attracted by a roar that sounded like a jet plane, and then appeared the objects from a clouded area, disappearing less than a minute later.

September, 1950 – Chief Lewis T. Holbrook of Holliston went to Newfound Lake, N.H., about ten days ago to enjoy a vacation from the trials and tribulations of police work, but found that it wasn’t so easy to get away from it all.

While walking near the cottage at which he is staying his attention was caught by something in an abandoned sand pit.  Upon investigating he discovered a safe which had been blown open and left.

He contacted local police and the county sheriff, who inspected his trove.  They told Chief Holbrook that the safe had been stolen about two months previously and that police of the area had been searching for it since the robbery.

Chief Holbrook will return to duty on Monday, but he’ll have more than fish stories to tell.
