The January ‘Bubble’ Focuses on Students

Holliston Reporter

From Jacklyn Winer, Director, Youth and Family Services

The “Spotlight Topic” in the January issue of The Bubble, (newsletter of Holliston’s Youth and Family Services) is the final piece of the college application process:  waiting! Sarah White, MSW Intern, writes a helpful article, “College Applications Are In:  Now What?” in which she recommends students confront their stress and anxiety and provides some simple, helpful strategies.

When confronting stress doesn’t work, White suggests reaching out to someone.  “There’s no reason to feel like you have to navigate it all on your own.”

On another note, an upcoming forum to be presented by Senator Karen Spilka is detailed.  The event, “Strategies for Student Success,” will be held at the Warren Conference Center, 529 Chestnut Street, Ashland, January 14, from 5:45 PM-7:30 PM.

“Strategies for Student Success” is designed to help students and their parents talk about stress, stressors, and mental health.  Dinner and childcare will be provided!  For more information or to register, click here: Strategies for Student Success

For anyone interested in substance prevention strategies in Holliston, the Holliston Drug and Alcohol Awareness Coalition (HDAAC) invites you to join them at the next meeting on January 14, 6:30 PM at 1750 Washington Street.

Kirsten Rancourt, Community Therapist, shares alternative and valuable options for those who are unsure about college or who do not want to attend a 4-year college right out of high school in “Not Everyone Goes to College, And That’s Okay!”

Among the list of options, Rancourt includes apprenticeship programs, employment, military service, technical post-graduate schools, and volunteer opportunities.  Each of these and more is briefly explained with a corresponding website for more information.
