Week #4: Holliston Senior Softball Wrap-Up: (thru 5/8)

A Baseball and a Bat on the Ground

Week 4:

Kampersal nipped Jasper Rock, 22-2 behind the bats of slugger, 1B Alex Kampersal (4-6, 5 RBI) and P George Kampersal, Jr who hit for the cycle and drove in the other 17 runs. It was a 15-run first that did in Jasper as Kampersal batted around and never looked back.  Kampersal’s trademark solid defense made sure Jasper had no chance of getting back in the game.

P George Kampersal not only shines in the circle but swings a hot bat as well..

Johnson North pounded Lions, 18-3 to move to a game over .500 for the first time in their short history. Still no post-gm details so I have no recap for you.  I can tell you that Lions OF Ernie ‘the Hitman’ Tomacelli continues to mash softballs and collected 3 more hits in defeat.

Braggville took down Dalton Rd, 18-10 as 2B Dan Devine paced the Braggville offense going 4-4 with 5 RBI.  Devine had a chance for the cycle but, his blazing speed let him down in his last AB and his gap shot only yielded him a double.  Dalton Rd P Dave Birmingham gave up just 2 ER as he was let down repeatedly by his defense to the tune of 9 errors.  Braggville also set the record for most pinch-runners in a game with 15.

For the second week in a row, Mudville put up 25+ runs in whooping The Hood, 28-9 despite the return of manager, Eric Kuharich.  The skipper did produce from the lead-off spot, though going 5-5 with 5 runs scored.  Interesting game this week vs an ‘A’ team in Dalton Rd-let’s see if the offensive production can continue.

South beat Downtown, 11-4 behind the stellar defense of 3B Matt Martinez and the return of 1B Tony Alessi who broke the game open early with a 3-run bomb to left through a stiff wind.  In an effort to score more runs, Downtown has petitioned the league to see if they can start with a runner on 2B each inning.  No word yet from league commissioner, Derek Cordon.

Photos taken above may shed some light on the offensive struggles Downtown has experienced early on this season.

In a rebound win for the ages, Brentwood edged Queens Kingz, 9-8 (You may remember last week they lost 147-2). In a see-saw affair, Brentwood SS Shawn Thompson drove in the go-ahead in the top of the 6th for a 2-run lead.  Kingz threatened in the 7th to close it to a 1-run game but stranded the tying run on second.  Huge props to the entire Brentwood organization here.

Anthony’s East dismissed DYR, 10-3 behind the bat and glove of LF Ben Pratt.  In the top of the first, DYR had bases loaded and 2-out for 3B Zach Raymond who laced a line drive to leftfield that Pratt snagged just off the grass in a sliding catch to end the inning and demoralize Zack for the rest of the game and possibly the season.  Up 8-3 in the 6th, Pratt hit a 2-run HR to right that landed at the Millis line.  P Alan Lisak settled down after a rough first (3 walks) and gave up just 6 hits the rest of the way.

DYR 3B Zach Raymond after Anthony’s LF Ben Pratt robbed him of a 2-run single.

GAME OF THE WEEK for WK #4 (5/15/22)

South(3-0) vs Anthony’s East (2-1): @ Patoma 6pm

  • Will Anthony’s ride the hot bat of LF Ben Pratt and can P Alan Lisak do enough to keep South off-balance at the plate?
  • Can South stay off the ‘swing oil’ until the post-game?
  • We’ll have a full write up and photos of this game in next week’s write up.

*Prediction: Anthony’s 13 South 10
