An Invitation to the Community

An ever-growing variety of programs, services, and activities are offered to adults 55+ at The Center, 150 Goulding Street, Holliston. Many of these may interest you; others may assist you in caring for your parents. The community is invited to attend an Open House at The Center, on Saturday, May 3, 11-1PM. The Center’s Great Hall will be the gathering spot for the community to meet staff, instructors, and volunteers, visit the building, and explore the possibilities!

Stop by The Center’s Bookstore, with its wide array of fiction to borrow or buy and The Good As New Shoppe, where puzzles and household items are available for purchase daily.  These two shops are open to the community, and all proceeds support the Senior Support Foundation (SSF) for programs at The Center.  Both shops will be open during the Open House.  

The following information includes many of the services and programs to explore:

TRANSPORTATION

Rides may be arranged through the MWRTA to appointments and grocery store visits.   Grant funded medical appointment transportation, for example, to Boston, Waltham, or Worcester, may also be available to you. (This excludes medical appointments that require sedation.)

NUTRITION

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can help you buy healthy food.  Older adults may be eligible—based upon their income—for an EBT card (similar to a debit card) to use at the grocery store or online.  Average monthly benefit for Holliston participants is $205/month.   

FUEL AND RENT ASSISTANCE

Make an appointment with the Outreach Coordinator, Cynthia Listewnik, to determine if you/your parent may qualify for this assistance.

HARD MEDICAL EQUIPMENT LOANS

Need a walker for a visiting family member?  The Center has a vast array of wheelchairs, walkers, rollators, shower seats, canes, bed rails and more to borrow at no charge.  Keep items for as long as you need them.

SENIOR SAFE PROGRAM

Through a fire and fall prevention program, free grab bars, carbon monoxide and smoke detectors for older adult residents of Holliston will be installed.  Items are provided and installed at no cost, thanks to a partnership with the Holliston Fire Department and the MA Senior SAFE grant.  (No hard-wired detectors.)

DEMENTIA 

Once a month a Memory Café is offered where people experiencing memory challenges and their care partners can connect with others for support and friendship.  The program is free.

Become a Dementia Friend:  A one-hour educational session focused on five key messages about living with dementia with simple things you can do to make a difference in your community.

METROWEST MEDIATION SERVICES

For a free consultation on how to resolve family business, or housing disputes.  The last Monday of the month.  Registration is required. (508.429.0622)

SHINE

Confidential counseling on all aspects of Medicare and related health insurance programs.

SPRINGWELL

Springwell is a local Area Agency on Aging, a member of the MA Home Care Association.  Springwell may provide solutions for the challenges facing older adults and their caregivers.  They may be able to help you answer a single question or for ongoing assistance.  

CALL2TALK

Call2Talk is a mental health, emotional support, and suicide prevention program run by Mass211. TeleCheck is a telephone check-in service for isolated older adults living at home in partnership with Springwell and Advocates, Inc., serving MetroWest.

PODIATRY SERVICES

Dr. Cooper will take clients for appointments one day a month.  A fee of $40 is payable at the time of appointment.

HEARING AID CLEANINGS

A licensed audiologist from Hopkinton Audiology is available to clean hearing aids for free once a month.

ATTORNEY ADVICE

Attorney Jay Marsden offers estate planning and wealth management advice and will meet individuals for a free 30-minute consultation in person.  He also offers Zoom session workshops on estate planning strategies.

Attorney Bergeron provides free 20-minute legal advice via phone on the 4th Monday of the month.  Call to schedule (508.429.0622).

NOTARY SERVICES

Shelly Schofield is providing notary services on the 3rd Tuesday of the month.  (Registration required.)

Spilka Listening Hour with Momina Haidri, from the Senate President Spilka’s office to answer questions.

Coffee with Holliston Police for a casual Q & A.

Veterans’ Coffee with Richard or Sarah from Metrowest Veterans Services.

Rainbow Coffee Hour where members of the LGBTQIA+ community and allies can gather in person for conversation and community.
