During challenging times, YFS reminds all that the Community Action Fund (HCAF) provides short-term emergency assistance grants to those experiencing a financial hardship. For more information or a grant application, contact Jackie Winer. Applications are strictly confidential.
Sarah White, the YFS intern, in her essay, “Meeting Kids Where They Are in an Uncertain Time,” suggests that “Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children.” Experts recommend that parents and caretakers:
- Understand children’s frustrations over not seeing friends and honor that frustration;
- Understand where they are coming from instead of punishing the behavior;
- Let high school seniors grieve any suspended exiting event that they were looking forward to;
- Encourage healthy habits.
Holliston’s YFS Community Therapist, Kirsten Rancourt presents information from psychologist Dr. Jelena Kecmanovic to help us develop resiliency during the pandemic. This Community Corner article is a must read with its practical suggestions and valuable resources.
