When we left our story, the DPW had unearthed a concrete object from the front of Town Hall.
We hoped it would include the time capsule from 1974…reportedly buried somewhere in front
of the building.

Time Capsule Mystery
In 1974, as part of the 250th Anniversary Celebration of Holliston, “someone” buried a time capsule that included pictures drawn by children in third grade. I was told about this by Robert Morse, one of the students whose artwork went into the capsule. Robert lives in Seattle now but is eager to find this relic. I was also contacted by the mother of Amy Petren who found a certificate for the item Amy placed in the capsule.
HCAT Honors and Awards
HCAT’s annual meeting was anything but routine this year when the Board took time to honor retiring member, Dan Sweeney. Dan served for nine years, but he is also one of the legacy producers of local television. Dan’s show was called “Profiles in Business” and between 1989 and 1991, he showcased 75 or more local business owners.
Historical Tomb Collapsing
On a recent Saturday morning the Holliston Historical Commission visited South Cemetery, across from Hopping Brook Industrial Park, to evaluate conditions at the collapsing tomb of Captain Jacob Miller of the Revolutionary Army.

On Turning 300
In honor of Holliston’s 300th Anniversary in 2024, a small committee is assembling historical facts and personal stories about the days since 1950, which is when Holliston began its transition from agricultural community to what we are today.
Board of Health Considers Smoking Bars, Blunt Wraps, and More
The Holliston Board of Health is considering four regulation changes related to smoking.
The BoH meets next on Tuesday September 27th to discuss the changes further.

Town Hall Building Changes
In 1902 hardwood floors were installed in Upper Town Hall. The space has been a basketball court, a ballroom, a movie theater, the scene of many weddings, showers, town celebrations and all Town Meetings before the High School was built.
